2022 President’s Message

Each summer, the LSU Department of Bands includes a message from the President of The Four Notes Club in their annual newsletter.

Alumni, Friends, and Supporters of Tiger Band,

We are pleased to announce that The Four Notes Club’s new website is live! We are extremely excited about this next step in our history, as this will allow everyone the opportunity to learn more about what the organization is about, what efforts to enhance Tiger Band are going on, and make things easier when it comes to becoming a member. We are still a partner of the LSU Foundation, and we have submitted all required information for consideration as a Tier 2 Affiliate of the university.

After not doing so for 2021, we are now asking you to renew your membership or to become a member of The Four Notes Club for a minimum donation of $50. Your gift is 100% tax-deductible and directly supports both the legacy that you left as a member of Tiger Band and those who have yet to become part of Tiger Band’s enduring story.
Any Tiger Band alum who makes their contribution of $50 or more prior to September 1, 2022, will receive $50 off of whichever package they choose to participate in for Alumni Band Weekend this year. Alumni Band Weekend will be held in conjunction with the game against UAB on November 19. Additionally, you will be notified about other events that only Tiger Band alumni will be able to participate in, such as in January when Alumni Bengal Brass Bands subbed for Tiger Band members who were away for the Texas Bowl and helped cheer the LSU Women’s and Men’s Basketball Teams on to victories in PMAC over Texas A&M and Kentucky, respectively.

On the Horizon
Last February, Tiger Band alumnus Matthew Bahlinger passed away at the age of 24. Matthew’s parents, Alice and Bert, have made a generous donation to The Four Notes Club to host two incredibly special events this fall during Band Camp, and we have worked with Tiger Band Director Dr. Kelvin Jones, LSU Director of Bands Dr. Damon Talley, and the LSU Foundation to make this happen.

As former bandmembers and college students, we know some of the pressure that comes with being in school and keeping up with a whole new world. To help provide both Tiger Band members and their parents with information that could be life-altering as well as life-saving, we will be hosting a dinner for parents of Tiger Band freshmen to alert them of the Student Health Resources that are available on campus. Texas Roadhouse and Walk-On’s will jointly cater this event, which will include speakers from Student Health. For parents who are unable to be there in person, the discussion aspects will be broadcast live and available for online viewing.

The second event will consist of a Raising Cane’s meal for every member of Tiger Band. During this event, current bandmembers will be provided with similar information regarding Student Health resources that are available to them on campus.

We thank Alice and Bert for all of the groundwork that they have done to make these events happen, and we look forward to these being continuing events in the future as we do our part to ensure all members of Tiger Band understand that they are part of an extended family that cares for them.

Band Requests
Over the past year, we have received numerous requests from individuals and organizations looking for Tiger Band to come play at an event. The new website features a section for such requests. When such an ask is made, we will send out an interest form to see if getting a group to play is viable. This is new territory for us, but we are hoping that it will relive Tiger Band of such asks in the future. So, if you are interested in being a part, be on the lookout for notifications. Our plan at this time is for City Committee to handle such requests in their local areas.

Thank you for everything that you have done and continue to do to make Tiger Band the best that it can be.

Geaux Tigers!
Timothy E. Rodrigue
President, Executive Board of The Four Notes Club
